As US President Donald Trump prepares to announce his tax plan, the political world is watching how videos featuring comedians can be used to push his agenda.
An American comedy club, the Comedy Central Channel, is behind one of the first videos to be produced in the US to promote the plan, and it’s using it to highlight the importance of a robust economy and infrastructure.
The video, titled A Trumped World, was produced by Comedy Central and has been shared on social media by Trump’s team, including his son-in-law Jared Kushner.
“The Trumped world is a new way to tell the story of the American dream,” said Stephen Miller, senior adviser for communications at the White House.
“It is a world where the economy is strong and we are building a nation that is resilient, thriving and ready to work again.”
The Trump-funded club, The Comedy Box, is a one-man showbiz production company that produces the show “Trumped” which is shown on Comedy Central.
The club has been producing political ads since 2008.
Crowdfunding is an online fundraising tool that allows for creators to crowdsource their own videos.
The Comedy Central videos will go on sale to fans for $5.
Comedy Central said they are working with Comedy Box to ensure they reach as many people as possible.
“We want to show the world that we’re serious about the things that matter most to the American people,” Miller said.
The club has already raised $1.5m, and Miller said he expects it will reach $4m by the end of the year.
There is an interesting parallel between the comedy world and the presidential race, Miller said, and the president’s team are using the channel to raise money for a political campaign.
Trump was in New York City on Monday for the Republican National Convention, and a video was released on Twitter that was produced for the occasion.
A White House spokesperson told New Scientist that it was not immediately clear if the video was produced in collaboration with the Trump administration.
The video is the latest in a series of clips being released by the Trump campaign and has already generated controversy for the president, who has faced backlash for his controversial remarks about women.”
The President has directed his team to build on these efforts by using Comedy Box’s YouTube platform to produce and share political campaigns videos and to continue the collaboration between Comedy Central, The Trumped and Comedy Box.”

Trump has made his disdain for the women in his inner circle known during his campaign, and many in the comedy industry have voiced concerns about the president attacking the profession in an effort to win over voters.
